Designed in 1957 by Eero Saarinen, the Tulip chair presented an alternative to four-leg seating. The Tulip armchair features a sculptural plastic shell, seat cushion and a fixed or swivel pedestal base.

The Tulip seating collection was designed to address the "ugly, confusing, unrestful world" that Saarinen observed underneath chairs and tables. The solution he devised was creating furniture supported by a singular, fluted base. Therefore streamlining the number of legs, and in turn, creating an iconic design widely used in kitchens, dining rooms and meeting rooms.
The KnollStudio logo and the signature of Eero Saarinen are located on the underside of the base.
Materials
Base: Cast aluminium, Rilsan coated finish. Shell: Moulded fibreglass reinforced plastic bonded finish. Upholstery: Upholstered or unupholstered inner shell, with removable foam cushion (zippered cover and Velcro fastening).
